National Hairdressing Apprenticeship
-
Developed by a consortium of industry and education providers the new National Hairdressing Apprenticeship will provide successful apprentices with a Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Hairdressing which will be the only recognised national qualification for fully qualified hairdressers in Ireland.
This apprenticeship programme is designed to ensure that the apprentice receives training, both on and off the job, which is formally regulated and of a consistent standard nationally.
The duration of the National Hairdressing Apprenticeship will be a minimum of three years with training consisting of 80% on-the-job education and training with the employer and 20% off-the-job training with Crumlin College on a day release basis.
To qualify for acceptance onto the National Hairdressing Apprenticeship program, candidates must firstly secure employment as an apprentice with an approved salon that will then start the registration process with SOLAS, the Further Education and Training Authority.
