Travel & Tourism with Agency Skills

This course looks at the world of successful travel companies, from the administration side to handling customer needs in a fast-paced environment. We look at the importance of the tourism and travel professional and their relationship with modern tourists. Students will work on group projects and individual assignments in order to complete the course. Those who are successful in this course may choose to enrol in our Level 6 Management & Marketing in Tourism course or go on to work in areas such as travel agencies, tour operator companies or tourism offices or the hospitality industry.

Career Opportunities:

Students can pursue careers in tourist boards, resorts, reservation offices, tour operations and travel package providers.  Students may also wish to start their own business.

Successful students can further their studies in Year 2 - Management & Marketing in Tourism in the College.

Minimum Entry Requirements:

Leaving Certificate/Leaving Certificate Applied or equivalent standard of education. Exemptions may be granted to mature students. All entry is subject to interview.

Tourism & Travel Studies Activity Planning

This course focuses on group and event tourism. We will explore the growing interest in the adventure activities and event planning businesses. Adventure activity companies and the events industry are exciting tourism areas, going from strength to strength. Students will work on group projects and individual assignments in order to complete the course. Those who are successful in this course may choose to enrol in our Level 6 Management & Marketing in Tourism course or go on to work in areas such as event management, adventure activities, tourism offices or the hospitality industry.

Career Opportunities:

Students who successfully complete this course will be prepared for opportunities within eco-tourism companies, tour providers, tourism offices, adventure centres or resorts.  Students may also wish to start their own business in this category.

Management & Marketing in Tourism

This 2nd year course is ideally suited to students who want to progress into the management & marketing areas of tourism. Students will acquire a variety of skills and knowledge in tourism, business & IT which will enhance their career prospects in the tourism industry. The course is a further development of the first year Tourism & Travel Studies course.

Career Opportunities:

Successful graduates of this course can enter the employment market in a number of areas and at various management levels of the tourism industry.

Further study - successful students may be eligible to apply to DIT for entry into Year 2 of a Degree Programme in Tourism (subject to approval).

Successful completion of FETAC Tourism Award or FETAC Business Studies Award (to include two Tourism Modules) or equivalent standards of education. All entry is subject to interview.
